Commercial breaks, your clips.

SurfRewind does not bundle any commercials. It plays clips you supply, between whole programs, within a time budget you set.

On TV (Plex)

  1. Put clips in a dedicated Plex Other Videos library and share it with the Plex account SurfRewind uses.
  2. Settings → Library → Commercial breaks: choose that library and scan it.
  3. Turn breaks on, pick a time budget per break, and optionally match the program’s decade. Give clips a year in Plex for decade matching.

On Windows

Point Settings → Commercial breaks at a folder with 80s, 90s, 00s or bumpers subfolders. MP4 with 8-bit H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, 1–300 seconds each. Other formats are skipped, never converted.

How breaks are built

Whole clips are chosen within the budget; a clip is never cut. Breaks are part of the schedule, so the guide and the channel’s timing stay honest. Turn breaks off at any time and the schedule simply closes up.
