License & Terms

Your free app

We give you a non-exclusive license to install and use the free SurfRewind app on devices you own or are authorized to use, for personal and household entertainment. You may keep backup copies. The core player, library connection, channel guide and included free looks do not require a SurfRewind subscription or theme purchase. Free does not mean open source; we retain ownership of our code, branding and theme artwork.

You may share links to our official downloads. Do not sell SurfRewind, present it as your own product, redistribute paid theme assets, or use our branding to imply our endorsement. These restrictions do not override rights you have under applicable law or a third-party open-source license.

Your media stays yours

SurfRewind is a player, not a source of movies, shows, live broadcasts or commercial clips. Only connect to servers and play material you are permitted to access. A shared server must remain available and authorized by its operator. SurfRewind does not grant copyright or public-performance rights in that material.

We claim no ownership of your library, media files, channel selections or personal settings. You are responsible for having permission for any content you add, including commercials and custom artwork. Do not use SurfRewind to bypass access controls, steal credentials, or interfere with other people's devices or services.

Optional themes and previews

Additional themes are optional. Before any real purchase, the checkout must identify the item, total price, applicable taxes, supported platform and ownership or restoration conditions. This agreement does not itself enable a store, create a subscription or charge you.

Windows purchases are disabled in the current public beta. Temporary access to preview themes is not a purchase or a promise of permanent ownership of those extras. Preview access may end, but that does not remove the core free app or its included free looks.

For future purchases, the terms shown at checkout and any applicable store rules govern payment and restoration. Do not assume a purchase transfers between Amazon, Windows or other stores unless that is expressly offered. Refund requests may be made to the store that processed payment, or to info@rightek.ca for direct purchases. Nothing here excludes a refund, remedy or other consumer right required by law.

Beta software and updates

The public beta is unfinished software. Playback depends on your files, codecs, device, network and media server. We do not promise compatibility with every format, uninterrupted operation or a release date for planned features. Keep appropriate backups of your own data.

On Windows, automatic update checks can be switched off in Settings. Downloads and installation require your choice. Store-distributed versions may update according to that store's settings. An update notice is not permission to charge you or upload your library.

Privacy and third-party services

Our privacy notice at https://surfrewind.com/privacy describes data handling. It is separate from this license; accepting this license is not consent to optional marketing or tracking.

Plex, media-server operators, app stores and payment providers have their own terms and policies. SurfRewind is independent and is not endorsed by those services. Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their own licenses; included notices and source-offer obligations are not replaced by this agreement.

Amazon-distributed versions

Amazon's Default EULA Terms apply to apps and associated content distributed through the Amazon Appstore. This agreement supplements those terms only where compatible; it does not replace or contradict Amazon's required terms or override your rights under them.

Reasonable limits, without taking away your rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we provide the free beta as available and without additional contractual warranties, including promises of fitness for a particular purpose or error-free operation. To that same extent, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses caused by use of the beta.

These statements do not exclude mandatory warranties, consumer guarantees, refunds or other remedies; liability for fraud or deliberate misconduct; or any liability that the law does not allow us to limit. We do not require arbitration, waive class actions, or require you to bring a consumer claim in a foreign court.

Stopping use and serious misuse

You may stop using and uninstall SurfRewind at any time. Uninstalling may leave local settings behind; the privacy notice explains removal. We may end the permissions granted by this license for a material breach, with notice and a reasonable opportunity to correct it where practical, except where immediate action is required by law or to address serious abuse. We will not delete your media as a consequence.

Ending use does not remove any accrued refund or other legal rights. Ownership provisions and limitations apply only to the extent they lawfully survive.

Accepting and changing this agreement

The Windows installer presents this agreement before installation. Choose I Agree only if you accept it; otherwise cancel. Simply reading this website is not acceptance. These terms do not retroactively amend an agreement for a previously installed version.

The version supplied with your installation remains available in the app. If we propose material changes, we will provide notice and seek fresh acceptance where required, rather than treating a changed web page as automatic agreement. Mandatory laws and consumer protections applicable to you take priority.
