Changelog
What changed.
One entry per release, newest first. A release marked In progress is built and tested but not yet published on every store.
Programmed like a station — Fire TV launch, Google TV build 29 and Windows 0.9.7-beta.22
- Channels play in order, shuffled, or by release year; a channel built from one show plays in order by default. Sitcoms air in pairs and films are followed by their sequels.
- Dayparts: PRIME TIME movie block at 8 pm, AFTER HOURS after 11 pm, and a new SATURDAY MORNING channel for weekend cartoons.
- Marathons: three hours of any series or film collection from the next program, kept through Shuffle lineup.
- Holiday weeks bring seasonal programming to PRIME TIME and a HALLOWEEN NIGHT or CHRISTMAS station when your library qualifies.
- Channels build themselves from your library: up to twenty of your biggest shows in episode order, your collections, genre mixes, audiences, lengths, PILOT SEASON and a handful of decades — skipping anything you already have. Choose which kinds you want in Channels → Made from your library; anything you switch off stays off.
- Discover lists even more ideas: one per long-running show and per collection, decade × genre, audiences, lengths, genre pairs and PILOT SEASON.
- Back takes you to the top menu (Guide · Channels · Settings) in one press from anywhere in the guide.
- Add a channel with pickers over your library's real shows, genres, decades and collections, with counts and a live preview; the station names itself.
- Parental PIN: hide mature channels or lock them behind a PIN.
- Up-next card in the last ten seconds of every program; nightly library scan with a note when new titles arrive.
- Watching reflexes: info banner on every tune, number-key channel entry, static between channels, channel and media keys, Surprise me, Start over, a stall watchdog and Back-twice-to-exit.
- Simpler: Settings has four sections led by Looks, with six Quick looks; the TV controls menu is down to six rows.
- Fire TV: SurfRewind 0.9.7-experience.49 is on the Amazon Appstore (Oct 14). Google TV and Android TV: build 29 is on Google Play (Oct 18). Windows 0.9.7-beta.22 is the current download and update (Oct 11).
Windows 0.9.7-beta.17 and Google TV build 20
- Start on your last channel, return to the previous channel, or set a sleep timer.
- Preferred audio and subtitle languages; channel ordering without changing numbers.
- More automatic channels when your library supports them: Westerns, Romance, Musicals, War Stories, Nature & Wildlife, Food & Travel and 70s Movies.
- Faster Screen light and Basement ’89 refinements on Windows.
Google TV and Android TV launch
- SurfRewind arrives on Google Play for Google TV and Android TV with free playback, the guide and four classic cabinets.
